This appears to be made up from various parts. Everything appears to be original except for the stock which is a .45/70 style in the lock area. The round barrel is a scarce 36" long mounted with a one piece stud front sight and a two leaf rear sight just ahead of the breechblock hinge strap. Metal coloration is dark brown and gray with some very light roughness. The hinge strap is marked "CA." Caliber is .50/70 and the bore is very good. Breechblock is faintly marked with "1866" over an eagle head. Receiver is quite dark in color with some very light roughness present. The entire cam latch mechanism is missing and the firing pin is also not present. The breechplug tang is moderately pitted. The lock action works well and the lockplate is excellently marked with date of 1864 on the tail. Two piece triggerguard is dark brown with some very light roughness as is the standard military buttplate. Sling swivel is located on the triggerguard bow and on the upper barrel band of which there are two retained by springs. The stock, as mentioned earlier, is a .45/70 style with rounded profile around the lockplate mortise and on the opposite side. Stock is in poor condition generally with very dark coloration and heavy denting and scratching from very rough handling. A 3 1/2" sliver of wood is missing above the lockplate extending from the tail to the breech of the barrel. No ramrod is present. Also, nosecap is missing and wood is slightly damaged in that area. Overall condition is fair.
