The expedition carried the 1801 Thomas Jefferson Peace Medal in various sizes and metals for presentation to the Indians they met along their route. The medals were in three sizes - about 104mm, 77mm, and 55mm; and were silver and copper. This medal is a bronze reproduction of the small size, (about 2 1/2" dia.). Medal is struck with the front bearing the likeness of Jefferson, marked "TH.JEFFERSON PRESIDENT OF THE U.S.A.D.1801"with the reverse showing a crossed peace pipe and tomahawk over clasped hands marked "PEACE AND FRIENDSHIP." Each is furnished in a logo-stamped gift box with a display stand and an informational card.
