FR0838 DGW EARLY AMERICAN JAEGER FLINT RIFLE Reviews

Review:

Decided to buy the flintlock Jaeger for myself. Went out to do some target shooting both yesterday and today and had some fun with with that. Using the 3/4th inch Arkansas flints (FA0476) with .530 Speer Swaged Round Balls (BA0515), and Wonder Patches (PA3008). Between the ball and the patch, it's a nice tight fit. After working the movable parts, the rifle got broken in a bit. (Ramrod was tight, in and out a few times, and it was fine, pan was stiff, worked that a few times, fine, same with the patchbox.) Used the Jaeger Rifle Sling (SL1933) and that goes well with it.

As for the rest of the rifle: Was out shooting in the snow-blown wasteland of Upstate NY. Slipped and fell a couple times with the rifle on my back, rifle held up fine. With the lubed and oiled patches, it makes loading the rifle a relatively easy experience. A 95gr charge is what they call for, and I'm not going to disagree with them. Though at 6'1", 200 pounds, shooting from a standing position, the kick is still nothing to sniff at. Half a dozen rounds in, and my shoulder was noticing it.

The only reason I don't give this a 5th star is that I'm having a pain of a time getting it to spark. It could very well be operator error, and it could be an issue with the flints. However, I usually only get about two or three good shots with each side of the flint (they're double-ended) before they stop sparking well.

Rating: 4 of 5 Stars! [4 of 5 Stars!]
