During the 70’s shortage of black English gun flints, considered the best for flintlock firearms, Dixie Gun Works located a source for lesser quality, but serviceable flints from within the United States. These flints are ruggedly knapped, do not spark as well a English, and there is now a delivery and availability problem with these flints as well. 5/8" pistol size. These flints are cut and milled from selected pieces of agate. The raw stones are cut and the edges are milled with the highest precision to give the very best results. Flints have been produced by this working method since the 18th century in Germany. Our supplier lives in Mayen, Germany. The results of his work are that the flints last longer and give a superb ignition. .

Ordered these along with the \"Arkansas\"" Flints which were zeroed out of the order. Of the six flints in the package four were mere slivvers of flint-apparently too weak to be used as gun flints. Two were usable though roughly cut as advertised and responded to shaping with the rough side of a carborundum stone. I have used one of the flints in an old JUKAR flintlock with light mainspring. The frizzen of this produces few sparks with any flint but the american flint seemed to throw about as many sparks as good English ones. Ignition was reliable and set off the priming powder quite well once I had positioned the flint correctly in the jaws. I do think it might be better if only those flints large enough and strong enough to be used for their intended purpose were included in the package. "

These flints are the most unreliable \"flints\"" I have ever had the misfortune to use. They are cut badly out of line and have no defining qualities other than poor spark."

These 5/8\" flints range in size from 0.450 to 0.550. They are only slightly larger than a true 3/8\"" flint and nowhere near 5/8\"". They are poorly cut and too small to even clamp into my rifle."
