FK3420 Dixie Pennsylvania Rifle Kit - .50 Cal. Flint

This is a well made rifle for the price. The kit is suitable for a beginner. Fits well. Great shooter. 70gr. FF .010 patch. I did purchase an aluminum ramrod(not from Dixie). There is a bit of a tight spot in the middle of the barrel and I broke the wooden ramrod. The frizzen was twisted. It did not affect performance but it did not align properly with the hammer. I returned the lock to Dixie and they repaired it no questions asked.

This rifle reeks of those early frontier days - with all the romance and mechanical features that defined the era. The rifle, even though in a kit form, is well fitted. I had intended to take a couple of months to finish mine, but pure enthusiasm drove me to complete the work in a little more than two weeks (88 1/2 hours total). Important - Don't rush the project! It is extremely fulfilling, but shortcuts will bite you on the butt, resulting in extra work. Mine now hangs on the wall in my living room; a stark reminder of days when men were men, and shooting a rifle required a lot more than simply pulling the trigger. Take your time and treasure the experience. The rewards are enormous!
