Just received this rifle and I have to say the fit and finish is very good. I had a very similar rifle from a different company a few years ago for which I paid about the same thing and the quality of the fit and finish and the overall quality feel of this gun is far above the quality of my previous rifle. I canメt wait to get outside to try it out.

I have now had a chance to shoot this a bit. Out of the box with 65 grains 2f powder it shot about 2 inches low at 50 yards. Adjusted the sights then shot a 5 shot group within 3 inches at 50 yards. Where I hunt it is unlikely I'll even have a shot at 50 yards 25 or less is more likely so I didn't shoot any farther out than 50 yards. Light recoil. I also tried 2f Goex substitute powder with 4f black powder in the pan. It would always hang fire for at least 2 seconds. Really bothersome. Also tried 2f black powder with 4f Goex in the pan. Couldn't get the gun to fire. Had to use black powder. I don't reccomend using Goex with this rifle.

Clarification: In my last review I should have specified that I was referring to Goex Pinnacle the REPLICA black powder when I said it didnメt work well with Goex. It works great with Goex real black powder. Sorry for the confusion.

As a long time Percussion fan this is my first try at Flintlocks. I just wanted a Cheap one to more or less play around with I looked at the Traditions Deerslayer But wasn't impressed at all Then I found the Traditions Hawken Woodsmen and it was exactly what I was looking for..The Fit and Finish is beyond what I was expecting for a 'cheap' gun. My only dislike is that it comes with a Cheap Fiberglass Rod Not sure if this is the 'Norm' these days But I would prefer a Hardwood Rod. Unfortunately it's gonna be a few months before I get to try it out Besides being Freezing Cold outside I'm moving out of State Once I get set up at the New Home I'll write a review on my Range time. So far off the Rack though I'm impressed
