HT0900 1839 Forage Cap

This style cap was officially adopted in 1839 for use in the Mexican War. Worn by both officers and enlisted men through the 1850s. After the Mexican War ended, the popularity of this style cap was carried over into civilian life and was worn by many classes of working men. The 1839 pattern forage cap was adopted for the Navy during the Civil War. Blue wool is correct of military, while black is correct for civilian portrayals. Made from quality wool.
