This carbine is perhaps the most popular shooter of all the Civil War breechloading percussion carbines. Our empty reusable case is very simple to use and made very nearly like the old original of black space-age plastic and has a thick base allowing for a tighter fit. Powder capacity is 35 grains. Sold in packages of 10.

I just got these and haven't had a chance to try them yet. Looks like they'll grip the bullets better than the aluminum ones I have. They will let the bullet fall out and the powder will spill if you tip them over.

These things are OK. The bullets fit snugly and won't fall out if the shell topples over. You definitely don't want to overload them. 40 gr. powder fits easily. My first shot was 40 gr. FFFg Triple Seven. The case ruptured jamming up the gun and throwing plastic shrapnel at my arm. (Luckily it was a cold day and the heavy jacket stopped it.) After I got the gun back together I tried 40 gr. FFFg black powder and all was better. 30-35 gr. is probably a better choice. Clean up is simple. Just wash in hot soapy water rinse and let dry.

Easy to use with the right loads. I use 35gr of 2F or 3F GOEX behind the .52 Smith bullet. I shot a 15 round volley cleaning every 5 shots with all hitting a 7inch target at 50 yrds using musket caps. these are reusable. Good Luck!

Using Pyrodex sticks of 50 gr volume and a .515 500 gr bullet one of the cases ruptured on the 3rd firing. The result was a minor powder burn on my off hand held too close to the receiver. Ricky is probably right; use about 30gr with a lighter bullet and be sure to check the cases carefully for signs of stretching after each shot. I plan on buying the brass cases to try next.
