Most percussion ignition Sharps rifles in current production feature a moveable sleeve in the breech o the barrel. Upon ignition of the powder, this sleeve moves backward to form a gas seal between the chamber and gas plate o the face of the breechblock. If this sleeve becomes stuck the results can be gases & pressure released between the sleeve and gas plate or can make the breechblock very difficult to open and close. The chamber sleeve must be cleaned to prevent it from becoming stuck. This tool aids in moving the sleeve so it can be cleaned. On some Sharps the sleeves are short and can be removed for cleaning while others are too long and must be cleaned as much as possible while still in the barrel. To use, first remove the breechblock and insert the tool into the chamber from the breech. Tolerences are close in this area so you might have to close the too a little to get it started into the chamber. Once it is in the chamber the tool is tightened with a 3/16” hex head wrench which expands the brass parts causing it to grip the sleeve. By using a rod from the muzzle end, the tool and the sleeve are tapped to move the sleeve to the breech for cleaning and to remove the tool. Made from brass; it will not damage the chamber sleeve. If you have a percussion Sharps, sooner or later you will need this tool. VERY LONG DELAY AT PRESENT TIME: 3 TO 6 MONTH.

I bought one of these. It would not expand enough to grip the chamber sleeve. A waste of money. The one that Pedersoli offers worked fine on both of my Sharps.
