A copy of the knife used and carried by Davy Crockett. The original is now in the Tennessee War Memorial Museum in Nashville, Tennessee. It is a classic 19th century all purpose, heavy, double edged utility knife. This type was very popular with 19th century sportsmen, as if offered two edges instead of one. It permitted one edge to be kept sharp while one was used for rough work. It was only in the early 20th century, with the passing of the frontier and decline of higher priced knives, that the double edge knife lost popularity as a hunting and utility knife. This particular knife is pattern welded from high carbon steel and the finest iron available. The iron layers also prevent the microscopic chipping that characterizes the normal dulling process of blades. The blade on this knife is 6” x 1 1/8” X ¼” and has been etched to bring out the beautiful pattern. Rosewood handle is 4 ½” long with brass guard and pommel; 11” overall. Heavy duty brown leather scabbard.

this is a handy little knife to have. i bought mine a few months ago and am extremely happy with it except it didn't come sharpened but once it is it holds an edge nicely. i use it every time i go into the wilderness whether it is for hunting or for camping. it'll handle most every camp task and can be use for field dressing animals. i've even become quite proficient at throwing this knife too. and having that extra edge is definitely nice when you are trying to pack light and don't want more than one or two knives. the damascus also makes it look nice.

This is a handsome knife and feels sturdy in the hand--no wobble. The handle is the right size for my long but slender fingers. The \"Made in India\"" marking is unobtrusive less so the name of the importer at the base of the blade. What gives this knife only 4 stars is that it comes from Dixie as dull as a butter knife. A dull knife is worse than useless and this one does not even have a bevel ground into the blade. Worse I think you would have to be a true craftsman or have specialized equipment to sharpen it adequately yourself. Several thousand strokes of my angled diamond-coated and ceramic rods (which have made every other knife I own shaving sharp) improved this edge to about table knife quality--no better. I was on the point of returning the knife to Dixie when I decided to take it to a professional knife sharpener. It is now very sharp and I am quite happy with it. So save yourself a lot of time and energy--get it professionally sharpened and enjoy your new acquisition."
