This is a close copy of a real Confederate bugle that was dug up at the Battle of Stone's River near Murfreesboro, Tennessee, several years ago and the original came from the H.O. Todd Collection of Murfreesboro. Overall length of the 2 1/2 looped bugle is 12 7/8"; 14" w/mouthpiece. Made of brass with plated mouthpiece. A high quality instrument; can actually be used.

This is a G Cavalry Trumpet and quite a player. There are a couple of dozen of these floating around the American Civil War reenacting bugler ranks. It's an easy player fun to blow and is reasonably in pitch. For $55 it's a STEAL. Recommended for beginning buglers of all ages the key of G is lower than a Bb bugle or cornet. So it's easier to hit the high notes (like the G in Taps). This is the SAME key as an Army Bugle or a Boy Scout Bugle although it doesn't have a tuning slide. This is a good choice for an artillery or cavalry bugler or a beginning infantry Bugler. When you start bugling for bigger bodies of troops you'll want to step up to a full throttled Clairon d'Ordonnance (the big belled bugles in Bb or C that you see in most of the ACW bugler photos). Highly recommended. And Dixie Gun Works service is legendary! RJ Samp Chief Bugler First Federal Division

RJ/Dave Dave glad to see you got one...I've had one for a year and find it's easy to play off my horse.... I have a Clairon d'Ordonnance as well ( as you may recall) With the new horse I started back with this one and found it was easier to play all 5 notice riding than with the Clairon. I love it....not sure I really care what key it's in... it plays great...and a steal at $55

Hey Guys I've been playing on this horn since 1995 and love it. It is easy to play on horseback and has pretty good tonation considering it's price. I've played alongside folks who have Clarions and other Horns and this horn sound just as good as all of them if not better! It's all in the player...baby! So Man-up and go get one for yourself try it.....you'll like it I say!!! Tou Jours Chief Trumpteer and Commanding Officer Capt. Lloyd Beeby 1st Pa. Cav. Co. \"B\"" (Central Fla.)"

Ordered this over the summer. Great value and nice horn. It did require heavy polishing with Brasso to get it looking sharp (a practice I learned from dealing with school supplied horns in my student days). It also helps to ditch the supplied mouthpiece (which was too shallow and small for my tastes). I picked up a standard trumpet mouthpiece for a local music shop (for almost as much money as this horn).

RJ; I beg to differ. While this horn is technically a trumpet it is not pitched in the key of G. It is in fact in the key of C (higher) just like the ubiquitous infantry bugle or Clairon D'Ordnance so commonly used. I just aquired one myself and it plays pretty good. It's just not the lower pitched cavalry / artillery trumpet ig G you thought. David Michel Bugler Comp'y H 2nd US Cavalry (Dragoons) www.dragoons2h.org
