PL0131 M1855/1864 MUSKET CARTRIDGE BO

Adopted in 1855 as a companion to the 1855 rifle-musket; holds 20 round, bullet down, in two tin boxes underneath which were two packets of ten rounds each. The Model 1855 box had a lead filled brass cartridge box plate which was dropped in 1864 in favor of a simple embossed "US" on the cover. A thin leather implement pouch is sewn to the face of the cartridge box for musket tools, wiper or worm. Heavy black leather, with a plain outer cover and an inner cover which further protects the cartridges. Cover closed with a brass stud on the bottom. Belt and sling loops on the back and two sling buckles riveted to the bottom. Use ME0202 cartridge tins.
