Similar to the French Model 1777. The original flintlock mechanism measures 6 1/4" in length with the forward portion ahead of the hammer being flat faced with a beveled edge and the rear portion with pointed tail being rounded. Separate brass pan is present. Double throated hammer with top jaw and top jaw screw missing. The barrel is round and 42 3/4" long. It is .69 caliber and dark brown outside and smooth with no pitting. Belgian proof marks are present on top of the breech and the breechplug tang is dated 1837. Bayonet lug is located on the bottom of the barrel at the muzzle. The barrel is attached to the stock by three flat steel barrel bands with the upper barrel band being a double loop style. Bands are held in place by band springs. Ramrod channel is beneath the barrel but no ramrod is present. The buttstock appears of walnut and is a medium brown color. It is mounted with a steel musket buttplate, steel triggerguard with finger grooves and a steel sideplate. A circular cartouche containing a rooster is stamped in the center of the left side of the stock along with various other inspector's marks. Included with the gun is what appears to be an original buff leather sling which is in about good condition. Also included is the original socket bayonet which is in very good condition. Overall condition of the gun is very good.
