SL0220 .58 Civil War Bayonet Scabbard

There are six variations for the M1855-70 angular bayonets. This scabbard is illustrated (#3) on page 35 of The American Bayonet book by Hardin. This is the 1st Model, early type scabbard variation #1 with smooth leather frog. Pinned brass tip just like the originals. Body and brass tip measure 19 ½”. The frog is two piece design with the collar overlapping the end of the loop; parts are held together by two copper rivets. The collar is sewn to the body by a single seam at the throat. A single copper rivet through the flat opposite the frog further serves to hold the collar and body together. Four more rivets through the loop itself form the belt opening. Will also fit the short variation of the M1816 musket bayonet, the M1835 musket bayonet and the M1842 bayonet, but is not exactly correct. A high quality made scabbard from India.
