The ideal tool to help you safely cut the barrel tennon or sight dovetails. Proper use of the Dovetail Cutting Guide, a file jig, will allow cutting perfect sight dovetails time after time. The only hand tools required in addition to the jig are a ¼” triangular file, a triangular jewelers or Swiss file, and a common edge cutting flat file. The jig is hardened to approximately Rockwell c-6-, and cannot be filed. This allows filing to the surface of the jig without danger of over-cutting. Fits barrels ¾” to 1”, round or octagon.

This is a great tool! I don't know why someone else rated it badly but I suspect he forgot to take in to consideration barrel taper and that's why he was complaining about the tool not being square. The tool is square. For those who know how to use tools this guide works great. I just chopped down an old .22 single shot and used this tool as a cutting guide and dovetail guide. Really easy and my gun came out great! I now have a great starting gun for my kids. Thanks Dixie GW! I'll definitely be a returning customer.

I wasn't looking for perfection in a tool when I ordered this so I was not disappointed when I received this in the mail. The outside of this is not squared so its no use for cutting barrels or to file them square. its rough cut on all surfaces and the dove tail looks like somebody hit it with a hammer mushrooming it into the groove. its as hard as the top of gods head so file and grinding is next to impossible and if you run a file against it it will destroy it. Dixie needs to get some quality control on some of the tools they sell
