Made by Tom Nixon of Huntington, WV. .40 caliber barrel is 43 3/4" long and is made by Douglas. Barrel has nice older brown finish with some age patina present. The breechplug is highly flared and the barrel is mounted with a silver blade front sight and a Kentucky style rear sight. The barrel is signed in script by the maker on the top flat ahead of the front sight. The lock is a large Siler and is nicely browned but shows wear and use. The stock is of extremely curly maple with extreme fancy figure in the buttstock area. The stock is mounted with brass furniture including the buttplate, toeplate, triggerguard, ramrod thimbles, nosecap and sideplate. There are several areas of fine wire inlay present around the lower barrel wedge and on the cheekpiece. Relief carving is present on either end of the cheekpiece, at the front of the comb of the stock, around the breechplug tang and around the lockplate and sideplate mortises. An incise line is carved along the bottom edge of the buttstock and relief carving is present around the ramrod entry thimble. A very well done molding is present on the ramrod channel. The barrel is held in place by four brass barrel wedges with no escutcheons. A sliding patchbox cover is present of the same burl wood as the buttstock itself. The patchbox cover is incise carved and inlaid with an ivory man-in-the-moon profile. This is an older gun and does show some minor wear and use. Gun was made in 1975 and is serial number 24. Overall condition is excellent.
