It has a darker fancier grade of walnut than the percussion LePage with more intricate checkering and engraving. Barrel is Browned while the hardware is polished steel. It has the same basic lock components sight and configuration of the percussion. It has a removable stainless steel vent-deeply coned on the inside as well as a large clean-out screw on the opposit side of the breach. Front sight is driftable for windage while the rear can be adjusted -but only with the breach removed. This makes the smooth bore version legal for international competition. It has an adjustable double phase single set trigger like that of the percussion model Flint ignition is very positive with no flash in the pan and no failures to spark until I had worn down the flint to the point that it could not be made sharp. This is a rifled .44 model that uses .433 patched balls. I am just beginning to learn to manage the flint ignition and do not shoot it as well as experienced competitive shooters do with the smooth bore version. Rapid ignition seems to be the key and I've had better luck using 3f g than the usually recommended 4 f as a priming charge. The design and execution of the LePage are top notch.
