The Mortimer pistol is a halfstock made from American walnut. Barrel is a .44 caliber, polished bright with a 10" octagon barrel. Twist is a 1 in 18". Front sight is a .210 dovetail blued steel base and blade. Rear sight is an open style, non adjustable, made integral w/hook tang. Furniture is polished bright. Color casehardened nosecap, hook tang and lower entry thimble. Single set trigger. Sliding external safety on lock. Lock is marked "H.W. Mortimer & Son". Barrel also has markings. Gorgeously made, well-finished wood and metal, disappointing reliability
Like I said, it's gorgeous. The metal and wood are well-fitted and well-finished. 5 out of 5 stars for both. The hooked breech is convenient for cleaning, and the horn-tipped ramrod is a nice touch. The lock throws a good spark.
However, the mainspring failed after fewer than 15 rounds. Not as good as I might have expected for the price.
