The only bad thing I can say is the brass had several deep pits. This kit was super easy to assemble the only stock work needed was sanding and very minor shaping because the cut was not completely symetric. The metal was all good no missing parts and it did ship with extra screws. The flash hole was a perfect alignment as well not something you see in every kit. The only problem I had was putting the sights on.

This is a very high quality kit. The wood is nice walnut with even tone and grain. All of the factory inletting is crisp and precise. When I received the kit it came with two tang screws and only one side plate screw but an e-mail to Dixie resulted in the second side plate screw being sent in a couple of days at no cost. Great service from Dixie. The metal parts are of exceptional quality especially the lock barrel and trigger. I took my time completing this kit being careful to keep all of the wood to metal lines clean and crisp. The barrel came blued for protection but I used a file and emery cloth to remove the mill marks. I finished the cast steel forend cap with a fine mill file and emery cloth. I browned the barrel and forend with Laurel Mountain Forge browning solution which gave superior results. I also removed the blue finish on the sights and browned them to match the barrel. When fitting the sights to the barrel I found that the dovetails in the barrel did not need to be touched. I used a small triangular Swiss file to trim the male dovetail on each sight to fit the barrel. I finished all of the cast brass parts with small files emery cloth and then crocus cloth. I finished the wood with 6 coats of low gloss tung oil using 00 steel wool on the first five coats to fill the grain. I have not fired this pistol yet am looking forward to it as the lock sparks very well and the trigger pull is just perfect. I am very pleased with this kit. This is my third Pedersoli muzzleloader (have a Queen Anne pistol and a Frontier flintlock rifle) and I must say that the quality of all the Pedersoli products is outstanding.

I purchased this kit awhile back for my son the barrel was blued already and most of the fitting was done after some minor fitting and some serious sanding the wood came out to be quite beautiful! The brass required a lot of elbow grease to polish but also looks great. We took it out to the country and gave it a test run. This thing is a lot of fun! It is pretty accurate for what it is and has a healthy kick. We are planning on taking it with us again this month my son wants to use it during the Firearms Deer season and given the chance (and enough practice) it will do the job just fine.

I bought this kit as my first kit pistol. I was pleasantly surprised at how easily this kit went together with simple hand tools and sandpaper. Some polyurethane stain and in no time I had a good looking piece I could feel proud of. It done well at the range out to 50 yards. I hunted with it that fall and actually got an opportunity but I failed to notice the light brushoops:-) but I can't wait till I can afford another.
