Invented in 1856 by Dr. J.A.F. LeMat of New Orleans and manufactured in Paris, France, and Birhamingham, England. The Lemat was a favorite sidearm of CSA Generals Jeb Stuart and P.G.T. Beauregard. A single .20 gauge shotgun barrel under the .44 caliber barrel makes the Lemat a unique firearm. N/SSA approved. Grips are checkered two piece European walnut. Metal parts are richly blued. The octagonal rifled barrel is 6 3/4" long. It is rifled with 7 lands and grooves. 1 in 30" twist. Dove tailed front sight and rear sight located on the hammer nose. Located beneath the rifled revolver barrel is a single .20 gauge smoothbore barrel. The hammer nose is rotated downard to strike a nipple for the smoothbore barrel. The revolver uses #11 caps. The cylinder is 9 shot .44 caliber. Hammer is color case hardened as is the trigger. Original "COL. LEMAT" markings are present on the barrel. Made in Italy by Pietta. The army model has a plain triggerguard with cross pin type barrel selector and knurled pin barrel release. Recommended load is 22 grains FFFg powder, .454 round ball, with a .44 revolver wad.THIS PRODUCT CANNOT BE SHIPPED TO NEW JERSEY OR CANADA.

My Replacement Lemat came in today and it was very impressive. It seemed to be of better quality that the last. It is well built and Dixie has done an excellent job in replacing the last one. I am very excited to shoot it.

Shoots great!! After all nine rounds the 20 gauge blast will give you a might punch. Very impressed. Check out: www.bayoumaconriders.weebly.com to check out our reenactment site.

This pistol is NEAT! Because it's so heavy it hardly kicks at all. I can easily fire it one-handed. The hammer is kind of difficult to cock with one hand(which is perfectly normal for the design) so I had a gunsmith lighten the mainspring. Now it's like cocking a colt. Very smooth. Accuracy is also good. I can definately recommend this revolver.

Iメm a mechanical engineer by profession and work for a defense contractor producing aerospace and firearm components for the US govメt. I received the gun today and I spent more than an hour inspecting it taking it apart putting it back together checking the general appearance all the mechanical movements for crispness precision and overall fit form and function. If there was something not to like I would find it. I found nothing. This is a very fine very well manufactured revolver. It is also a beautiful handgun the most elegant of the entire war period with an unmatched mystique. Pietta has a done a great job in re-creating it. The only fault I find as noted by others is the weakness of the loading arm but that is faithful to the original design and no fault of Pietta. Iメm glad to see that they opted for the easier-to-find-ammo calibers of .44 and 20ga - makes life easier. I opted for the Army version due to all of my Confederate ancestors serving as Infantry in the AOT and ANV. I donメt know for sure which specific types of weapons my ancestors used but with infantry and officers in the lineage I will definitely use this LeMat at reenactments! I highly recommend this item. And thanks to Dixie Gun Works for getting it out to me in two days!

An exciting masterpiece!
Old world craftmanship is alive and well in this Pietta replica of the original LeMat Revolver. A lot of handwork has obviously went into the making of this fine Revolver, and it captures the excitement of the original design, complete with some few original shortcomings. The original was expensive to make, and the current cost of the replica reflects that as well. Few can own an original, but who cares? This baby replicates one very well and can be shot without worry!
