An unusual conversation piece - originals date around the 1830 and 1850 period. It tests the strength of various granulations and different production runs of black powder to learn which is the best and which is the weakest. To operate, the short barrel is loaded to the muzzle with black powder,; the tester is fired after the indexing lever is turned over the muzzle. Upon firing, the indexing lever turns the little spring loaded wheel which indicates the relative strength of the powder. High quality, nicely engraved. Boxlock style frame, smooth wood grips, percussion ignition.

Description Modification
I am about to order this tester, but when reading the description, it states "percussion ignition". Dixie Gun Works needs to improve the description to include the type of percussion cap (#10, #11 or Musket Cap). Having the type of cap needed to use this tester would greatly help those who are purchasing both the tester and a tin of caps to go along with it. Dixie GW is missing out on cross-sales - if they wait until the product has been delivered to the buyer, the buyer may purchase caps locally and not through DGW.
Listing the size of cap would benefit both the purchaser and Dixie Gun Works.
I'm rating this product based on another, similar tester. I would rate it 5/5 but took off a star due to the description not being complete due to what size cap to use.
