A high quality pistol well worth the money. A modern version of the old fur trade era pistol (one style anyhow) made with high carbon steel. This pistol is accurate right out of the box ready for target or hunting. This is a MASSIVE sidearm great for small game hunting Black Powder shoots or just woods loafing/plinking. The belt \"hitch\"" is handier than a holster for a gun this size. My first Lyman and I am quite content as the quality is comparable and close to that of Thompson Center Arms. I only wish that I had bought this gun in the 1980's when they first came out as I missed out on over two decades of fun!!!"

5 stars all the way on this one. Overall fit and finish are superb as is all critical machining. Shoots remarkable well for a hand cannon. BOOM!!! I use 40 grains of 3F Goex behind a hand cast .530 round ball from a lee mold with a .010\" lubed patch and I easily hold a 4\"" by 4\"" group at 25 yards completly un-practiced. Can any modern pistol boast this ???!! Someone mentioned that a Lee R.E.A.L. bullet would fly well with the fast twist in the barrel and they probably are correct but the slugs that came out of my new R.E.A.L. mold were too small and would NOT engage the rifling at all. Beware of this. No big deal because the round balls do very well as I mentioned. Don't hesitate on getting this one. You'll love it. Cheers Dave M."

Great pistol fit and finish is great. Very accurate I used 80 grains FFFg .530 round ball .10 lubricated patch and CCI #11 caps. A bigger cap then the CCI number 11 would be preferred. Love the sights on it only issue I had was ramrod was very tight when in pistol took me taking it out over 40 times to finally get it somewhat loose.

I purchased my Plains Pistol in kit form four years ago and it built into a very nice pistol. Lock stock and barrel are very good quality. I get good accuracy using .530 round balls with an .010\" patch over 35 grains (volumetric equivalent) of Hodgdon's Triple Seven FFFg for 964 fps. This load shoots two inch groups at 25 yards. Part of the pistol's accuracy can be attributed to its very nice trigger. I like the spring loaded feature of the trigger. It's simple and works very well. This trigger won't rattle. The coil spring lock makes cocking a real pleasure too. I've shot this gun with FFg and FFFg black powder and Pyrodex P. It likes the Triple Seven 3F best. I have loaded up to 50 grains for 1106 fps. Recoil is heavy with that load. It's a real magnum. My pistol has never misfired."

The Blomquist conversion nipple (NP0925 6mmX.75)is perfect for converting this pistol to easier handling musket caps.
