Ordered the repro on Friday the 3rd and received it today- 9/8. Well made excellent action. Stock fits well. Stock wood is a little lighter in color but okay. Nice solid horse pistol. Can't wait to get it on the range and test it out. Will also use it on the battlefield as part of my dismounted Cav persona. Well done Dixie Gun Works!! SGT

Interesting Weapon
The first thing I noticed was that the pistol and stock were covered in a sticky grease. Cosmoline? I completely disassembled everything. Rubbing alcohol cleaned off the wood and steel parts. A buffing wheel with red rouge cleaned off the brass. The catch that locks the stock in place looked a little rough so I polished it with emery. After giving the wood a good coat of Minwax paste wax, I put it all back together. While it is not a perfect reproduction of the 1855 it is an interesting piece. Oh, BTW, the ramrod doubles as the cleaning rod and with the little cap, that holds it in place, removed you can attach the tools from the Enfield sgt's tool.

I found that the musket cap ignition was weak when I fired 30 gr. Triple Seven. I changed nipples and got great results after that.

Nice But Not Great
First of all, as others have mentioned, it is covered in grease and you will need to polish the brass since it will be stained by the packing grease. It's not historically accurate of a true 1855 but I can get over that. The cone is sized too small for musket caps, they fit very loosely on the cone. The barrel screw on mine was extremely hard to remove. It was seized in there tight. I damaged the head of the screw some due to trying to break it free so that I could remove the barrel. The sights suck. The stock on mine fits nice and snug. Over all I do like the pistol - carbine for what it is.

Nice But Not Great
In order to get a more historically correct piece, I removed the lock and hammer then removed the bluing and color case. I made a video on YouTube of my results. The cone is too small for musket caps and the hammer is incorrect so Im going to try and replace both of them. It is also missing the sling ring on the pistol grip (another thing Im going to try and correct) Mine does not like mini balls, they keyhole on paper. It is fun to shoot and I do enjoy shooting and reloading off of horse back.
