Very high quality components. Inletting is 98 percent complete. Wood was very beautiful. Barrel \"in the white\"" as well as hardware allowed me to brown instead of blue this gun for a very pleasing look. Fun to shoot."

Incredible piece of work. The lockwork is perfectly finished and fit. The barrel is in the white I browned BOTH of mine and they took the finish well. As to accuracy I couldn't believe a ML handgun could be so accurate. I have two and they are both perfectly accurate furthermore I did not have to trim the sight to zero either of them. It shoots just as well with 20g of Pyrodex as it does with 50g and to the same point of aim (@ 15 yds). If you are looking for a ML pistol of this size I would NOT hesitate to buy this pistol. By the way I have no connection with Lyman or DGW it IS just that good!

I purchased my Plains Pistol kit four years ago and it built into a very nice pistol. Lock stock and barrel are very good quality. I get good accuracy using .530 round balls with an .010\" patch over 35 grains (volumetric equivalent) of Hodgdon's Triple Seven FFFg for 964 fps. This load shoots two inch groups at 25 yards. Part of the pistol's accuracy can be attributed to its very nice trigger. I like the spring loaded feature of the trigger. It's simple and works very well. This trigger won't rattle. The coil spring lock makes cocking a real pleasure too. I've shot this gun with FFg and FFFg black powder and Pyrodex P. It likes the Triple Seven 3F best. I have loaded up to 50 grains for 1106 fps. Recoil is heavy with that load. It's a real magnum. My pistol has never misfired."

I got this pistol kit three days after I ordered it. And before I ordered it Dixie's customer service helped me decide on which gun kit I wanted between 3 different guns. Their customer service is the best very courteous and helpful I give them a 5 star rating. The pistol kit I give it a 5 star rating it was not too hard to put together but if you have OCD like I do it can get a little maddening Ill put it this way I had it in shooting order in 4 days :P It is very accurate at 25 yards with Hornady 224 gr round balls patch and 40 grains of Triple 7 3FG I was clover leafing with this load from a rest. And believe me it is powerful with that charge even a 30 grain charge it hits very hard would not hesitate to take it hunting in fact that is what I am going to use if for. DGW Customer Service 5 stars. .54 Lyman Great Plains Gun Kit 5 stars. Note: The tiny screws that go in the furniture were the barrel wedge goes through suck this is my only dislike with the kit I advice getting better screws even before you start the project the screws are soft and bend and break .

Fun gun
Got this kit for Christmas. Fun to build. Browned all the metal parts and used Birchwood Casey to finish the wood. Gun looks great and is fun to shoot. Shot it today for the first time, 30 grains FFFG with .530 lead round ball and a .010 patch. Shoots as well as any centerfire. Was my first kit build, will not be the last.
