Ordered mine Mon got it Thurs THANKS Dixie! Pietta's are good shooters this is no exception. Excellent craftmanship as well as finish: case harded to include butt plate (steel) blueing even stock walnut etc... Loaded some plastic cases with 35gr of GOEX 3f and 2f (both worked fine) with Dixie's .52 cal Smith bullets. Shoots about a 2-3in group at 50 yds. I shot 25 rounds without a single problem without cleaning probably should lube my bullets though. Strong reliable and easy to look at worth the dinero.

Best Birthday gift EVER ! My youngest bought me this it looks great next to my sharps and my musketoon ! Cant wait to get the plastic/brass cartridges so I can throw some lead. Looks very well made nice finish beautiful stock. Really like the case hardened steel. Like the saddle ring and sling bar as I do Cavalry reenactments.

First let me say that I have NEVER had a problem with DGW but I recieved my Smith carbine in the mail and it was filthy it looked as if someone shot it and wiped down the outside and packaged it up (im sure this happened at the pietta factory either bettween a shift change or luch break by an employee who prob dosent work there anymore) there was surface rust in the barrel and i had to almost he-man the nipple off (lots of rust at the bottom of the threads) after paying 1G for this carbine it kinda pissed me off. Pietta Do Better.... HOWEVER being a well made firearm and after a good clening and a little TLC it is now rust/carbon free I have taken it to the range and it fires everytime; it shoots about 1'5\" high at 25m OMG! (35g FFG Pyrodex and a .500 conical)But it seems all it needs is a replacement front sight which you can order online but DGW does not carry them; DGW pls carry hightened brass FS posts for the smith! Its a must need for the serious shooter. I have orderd and recieved the .515 conical mould and cant wait to see how well this works with my favorite civil war carbine! btw rateing is based on quality & how much fun u will have with this carbine."

This is a follow up review: After getting the brass replacement front sight the carbine now only shoots about 2in high at 50m insted of almost 2ft. I have gotten reliable functionality and performance with this firearm. Using the lee mould of .515cal 360g conical bullet im getting 2in groups at 50m most holes touching eachother! I have had to do a quick trigger job just to get the overly heavy trigger pull down to around 5-7lbs thank goodness Dr. Smiths design is so simple and for dremmels. I can definitaly say that this little carbine will go and go for about 25 shots wipe down the hinge and do 25 more shots. By far my favorite black powder longarm i own! Its fun reliable and more importantly accurate. A good buy for anyone looking for a breach loading firearm. If you want to see it in action go to youtube.com and search \"pietta smith carbine\"" my handle is popojoeexplode and i have many videos of this carbine shooting. "
