17140 COLT MODEL 1851 NAVY REVOLVER

3rd Model with small round triggerguard. Serial number is 74171 and matches on the loading lever, barrel, frame, triggerguard, backstrap and cylinder. Barrel wedge is number 0927. Six-shot .36 caliber cylinder and 7 ½" octagonal barrel. Gun coloration overall is gray and brown and shows extensive use. The barrel is marked with one line New York City address. Edges and corners are well rounded and no original finish remains. The small pin front sight has been replaced by a larger brass post. Edges and corners are well rounded and no real pitting is present on the barrel. The cylinder has traces of cylinder scene remaining with the serial number being quite legible. The action works well. Frame is brown and gray in color and is faintly marked "COLT'S PATENT" on the left side. Frame is mostly smooth. Hammer screw and the cylinder stop screw are both replacements. Barrel fit to the frame is fairly loose. Brass backstrap and triggerguard show moderate wear also. One piece walnut grips are in very good condition fitting well and showing light wear only. The hammer spur has been broken and repaired with the contour not exactly the same as the original. Overall condition is about very good.
