The 1866 Winchester was developed from the Henry and production began in 1866. Apx. 170,101 were made. It differs from the Henry, however, by having a loading gate on the side of the action, a wooden forearm and separate tubular magazine. Called the "Yellow Boy" by the Indians, the 1866 is the most deserving of the name, "The Gun That Won The West."

Buttstock and forearm are made of European walnut w/satin finish. 3 1/2" drop and 13" trigger pull. The barrel is blued .32/20 caliber 24 1/4" tapered octagon - .860" at breech to .750" at muzzle. Cut rifling .004" deep. 6 lands - .303 and 6 grooves .311. 1 in 21" twist. Front sight is blued steel base and blade, 3/8" dovetail. Rear sight is blued steel, semi-buckhorn, open style w/push elevator. 3/8" dovetail. Ignition is .32/20 black powder cartridge (or) factory loaded ammo. 13 + 1 capacity magazine.

Features brass frame, buttplate and nosecap. Color casehardened hammer and lever. Single trigger. Overall length 43 1/2" and weighs 9 lbs. Manufactured by Uberti/Italy.
