I purchased this gun expecting to find a perfect little flintlock pistol to be able to be concealed but no be too small. I brought it to a reenactment and everyone that was in my company wanted to fire it. Needless to say I'm short a half pound of gun powder. If there was a 1 to 5 star rating I would rate it about a 10. It is a great pistol. Anyone looking for a good small but not too small flintlock pistol this is what you are looking for.

This is the 'police' version of Napoleon's army pistol model of 1800. The barrel is short and overall length is 9-1/2\". Ancient sizing units were based on human anatomy. A 'foot' is 12 inches. A 'hand' is 6 inches (used in measuring a horse's height for instance) and a 'pace' is a yard. So when holding the gun in the hand it extends out about 1-3/4\"" on each end truly a tiny gun for a flintlock! And a drop dead gorgeous one too. The lock is engraved with large scroll lettering as attractive as handwritten letters might appear on the preamble to a national constitution. It says the gun is made at the imperial factory at Maubeuge. The front of the barrel held on by an horizontal spring inletted in the stock. Which when pushed allows the front band to be pulled straight off towards the muzzle. The breach end of the barrel is of course held by a large screw from tang to trigger guard. The bore is 60 calibre exactly the same as the orgininal. Ammunition is easy to find because round ball produced for a tight fit in a .58 cal rifle is perfect for the desireable looser fit in a smooth bore such as this weapon. Hornady makes a swaged .570\"" round ball and there are .575 and .580 cast ball avialalbe online. All of these sizes work very well. I shoot .570\"" Hornady. But .575\"" should be perfect! The ramrod is all steel and works well it is not threaded just a tulip on the front end with nothing on the back end. The ramrod on the gun is all that is needed when shooting but another rod that holds a patch is needed back at home or in camp for cleaning. Just as in Napoleon's day. It would be hard to imagine a muzzle loading flintlock pistol that is more fun to shoot than this small attractive military and police gun. Back in the 19th century many of Napoleon's officers did not carry the official military pistol and prefrered this police model version instead. Because it was so light they could carry a brace (two) instead of just one. I have a half dozen black powder guns this my favorite!"

A Quality Firearm
This is a solid built pistol. I'm very pleased with the craftsmanship of it. There are a few minor cosmetic rough spots but nothing that would affect the function. The pistol was delivered quickly and it's everything others have said and more. My next review will be written after I return from the firing range. THANK YOU FOR YOUR REVIEW....GOOD LUCK AT THE RANGE.

Small and powerful...
...and therefore sure to draw a crowd on the firing line. It's 60 caliber which almost 20 gauge! But only just over nine inches long. Quite an event when shooting :) anIX translates to 'year 9' of the revolution which was the year 1800 for any country not France. Napoleon is in charge now and he is having world class military grade guns designed. Like this one which has a lock stating fabricated in Maubeuge which was one of two cities that made France's military guns (the other being Charleville). In 2004 it was exactly 200 years after Napoleon was crowned emperor and Pedersoli made the anIX and anXIII series of guns in his honor. They were all top quality as to surely please an emperor! The French officers were supposed to carry the longer anIX version but they preferred smaller and more handy to carry 'police' (gendarmes) version of the pistol. So most of them bought these with their own money and sold the bigger one they had been issued. I have some old reproductions and also modern guns. This is probably the last one I would ever sell. Not a single problem to load and shoot. :)
