Made by Perry of London. This pistol would date from about 1770. Overall length is 15 3/8”. Brass barrel is part round and part octagonal with a nicely turned ring at the transition. Barrel is 9 ¼” long and has a smooth bore of about .62 caliber. The barrel has very nice aged coloration and is engraved on the top flat “PERRY LONDON” in script. Two deeply struck oval proof marks are present on the upper left flat of the barrel. No sights are present. Stock is made of walnut and extends all the way to the muzzle. Stock is mounted with brass furniture including the tined buttcap, brass triggerguard with acorn finial, ramrod entry thimble and stepped sideplate. The upper thimble on the ramrod channel is made of steel. The tapered ramrod is a correct style replacement but with no metal tip. The buttcap has traces of light engraving remaining which is worn away. The stock has nice glossy finish but has been broken through the wrist area and repaired with an iron strap riveted into the center of the back. This is a very old repair. The lock mechanism with brass plate is 4 ½” long. It is a flat faced plate with beveled edge and simple line border engraving. The lockplate is also engraved in script “PERRY.” Brass pan is made integrally with the plate and has a bridle to the frizzen screw. Lock works well. Overall condition is very good.
