I am shocked; shocked I tell you at Geoff's review and bad experience. I've been shooting all types of black powder arms for over sixty years and if my little 2 band Enfield is plotting evil against me I've yet to see it. My only complaint is that front sight is too low and thus shoots too high at 50 yards. The rest of the rifle appears to be of very high quality. I've put 25 rounds through it without a hitch. It is accurate and the lock operated flawlessly with a crisp trigger pull. I have recently purchased a Smith and a Sharps carbine by the same maker and they are sweet! The Smith performed impressively at a recent NSSA shoot-very accurate. Seems that the company would send the gentleman a replacement if asked. The Italian proof house is very stringent so I doubt he need fear catastrophic failure of his barrel

It would be difficult for me to be more disappointed with this rifle. Internally it seems to be fine. I have fired it (blanks 60 grain charge) perhaps 15 times since receiving it. At first it seemed to be a fantastic defarb at a good price; I carried it at BGA Gettysburg and through the NPS living history with no qualms. And then I brought it home and the bayonet lug snapped off. And then the front sight fell off. This happened in a Brooklyn apartment. Neither the bayonet lug nor the front sight were subjected to any sort of harsh or unusual stress. They simply fell off. In my hands. I count myself lucky that this didn't happen in the field and I could quickly find the parts. Given the poor construction of even the most rudimentary parts of this rifle I am hesitant to carry it into the field again as I have no idea what surprises lie in store. If I could easily return this piece I would; instead I will have to take it to a gunsmith for evaluation before I carry it again. Dixie Gun Works fulfilled their obligation; the rifle was shipped promptly and received on time and in condition as described. My complaint is against the manufacturer Chiappa Firearms. \"Collectors Edition\"" my granny Frances. I STRONGLY advise anyone considering one of their products to look elsewhere. I thought I had a fantastic deal but unfortunately you get what you pay for. Rated 2 stars for not exploding and killing me (yet). Folks you can do better than this. If I could I'd go back and drop the extra $200 for a product from a manufacturer I trust."

Maybe it is just me but my objection to Chiappa is you think you are getting a reasonable copy of a civil war rifle but it does not have a breechplug as we know it. Rather it has what I have been told is a cast breech that the barrel screws into. This may be stronger I don't know but it most certainly isn't what I would consider a copy of a period gun just some modern shortcuts made to look like a period gun.
