Custom Kentucky flint rifle made by Robert D. Reeves in 1966. Top of the octagonal barrel is marked “ROBERT D. REEVES 1966 #20.” The barrel is beautifully browned with all of the brown finish remaining and is 42” long and .45 caliber. A solid brass front sight and flat Kentucky style rear sight are present. Stock is of beautifully figured medium colored maple with quilted and striped figure over its entire length. Bass furniture includes buttplate, toeplate, triggerguard, ramrod thimble, nosecap and sideplate. Ptachbox is very ornate with intricate piercings. It is engraved with the initials “JHS.” In addition, the stock is relief carved in front of and behind the checkpiece and around the lockplate and sideplate mortises. Intricate incise carving is present on either side of the wrist and along the ramrod channel. An eight-pointed German silver star is inlaid on the checkpiece and the four barrel pins are surrounded by pairs of fancy escuctheons. A molding is carved along the ramrod channel. The comb of the stock has a distinctive curved profile. The flint lock used is nicely browned and lightly engraved. Double set triggers are present and work perfectly. Also comes with a single set trigger. This is unusually high quality and style for a custom gun from this period.
