An innovation by the common soldier to make his life simpler and easier in a very disturbed time. These simple devices were either made by the soldier or by the company blacksmith and helped prevent the almost immediate wearing away of heel leather under the constant marching of the Civil War infantryman. Our heel plates are handmade of steel, 3/16” wide X 3/16"” thick, curved 3” X 3” with five drilled holes. Available in pairs, one size only.
