A copy of the knife used and carried by Davy Crockett. The original is now in the Tennessee War Memorial Museum in Nashville, Tennessee. It is a classic 19th century all purpose, heavy, double edged utility knife. This type was very popular with 19th century sportsmen, as if offered two edges instead of one. It permitted one edge to be kept sharp while one was used for rough work. It was only in the early 20th century, with the passing of the frontier and decline of higher priced knives, that the double edge knife lost popularity as a hunting and utility knife. This particular knife is pattern welded from high carbon steel and the finest iron available. The iron layers also prevent the microscopic chipping that characterizes the normal dulling process of blades. The blade on this knife is 6” x 1 1/8” X ¼” and has been etched to bring out the beautiful pattern. Rosewood handle is 4 ½” long with brass guard and pommel; 11” overall. Heavy duty brown leather scabbard.
