From the mid 1700s through the mid 1800s three generation of the Ketland family were heavily involved in the gun trade from Birmingham and London, England to Philadelphia. The early Ketland – not fancy, but entirely serviceable was produced in Birmingham during the 1760s and 70s and exported to America. By 1800 the late Ketland was commonly imported and used in virtually all areas of the country involved in producing guns. This lock incorporates a roller on the frizzen sprig and uses internal parts from the large Siler lock. Late lockplate measures 5 ” X 15/16” and uses 3/4"to 5/8” flint.
