Flat plated lock has simple line border engraving with no other markings present. Lockplate is fairly heavily pitted and the hammer matches perfectly. The pan appears to have been rewelded into place indicating reconversion. The round barrel is dark brown in color with moderate pitting over the entire length. The length is 43 5/8" long. No front sight remains and a simple notched rear sight is mounted in a shallow dovetail about 8" ahead of the breech. Top of the breech is stamped "LONDON" and British proof marks are present. The bore is about .68 caliber. The stock is of walnut and has classic English styling. The comb is deeply futed on either side. Typical brass sporting buttplate with brass triggerguard and ramrod thimbles also. A large Brown Bess style inlay is present on top of the wrist. The inletting for a fancy sideplate on the left side of the stock has been filled with lead or pewter. Stock is in about very good condition except there is a large knothole crack just ahead of the sideplate on the left side. Crack does not go all the way through to the other side but it is a severe crack nonetheless. Overall condition of the gun is good. Touch hole is bushed indicating that the barrel has been reconverted also. Original price $1695.00.
