Possibly American made but with English parts. The part round part octagon barrel is 48 3/8" long. It is dark brown outside with moderate pitting overall. It appears to have had British proof marks at the breech but I cannot be sure about that. Bore is about .68 caliber. It has a low teardrop shaped brass front sight applied to the barrel. No rear sight is present but a wide dovetail about 8" ahead of the breechplug has been filled with a blank piece of steel. This steel age matches the rest of the barrel and appears to have been there for quite some time. The lock is English. It is of medium size with overall length of about 5 3/4". It has a convex face with light line border engraving. It is marked with a name ahead of the hammer which appears to be "MOORE." The lock is pitted in that area and the marking is faint. Rounded bridleless pan. Lock is original flint and has not been reconverted. The touch hole appears to have been relined. The stock is very unusual and appears quite early but is in excellent condition. It is made without a buttplate with the stock merely rounded over and shaped to a normal crescent contour in that area. Buttstock is of fairly large proportion. Fluted comb on either side of the top of the wrist. A scallop design is carved into the stock around the breechplug tang and also around the ramrod entry oriface on the forend. A slight swell is present on the forend around the ramrod entry. Two plain brass thimbles house a non-original wooden ramrod. Stock extends to within 1" of the muzzle. Stock shows light wear. Steel triggerguard has a pineapple style finial and has a very large finger opening. One small sliver of wood has been replaced along the forend. Replaced wood is blended very well. There are several minor cracks along the slender wood of the forend. Overall condition is very good plus. Original price $3250.00.
