PW7410 Pewter Chatelaine (Thistle & Leaf)

Ladies garments of the 18th century had no pockets, so the chatelaine served a dual purpose. It was an adornment for clothing as well as a utilitarian item. This particular, highest quality pewter chatelaine is 3 ½” long X 1 ½” wide with an ornate thistle and leaf design. A sturdy clip is soldered onto the back for clipping to apron top or petticoat band. Four chains are provided for attaching accessories: keys, scissors, watch, etc. These were popular wedding gifts in the 18th century. A fine accessory piece for today’s historical impressionist.
