This gun is serial number 12 of a limited edition which was planned for 60 pieces. Considerably fewer than 60 pieces were made, probably about 20 to 25. The gun is a replica of a Kentucky pistol made by the late Louis Smith of Jonesboro, Tennessee. The pistol has a full maple stock with a combination of brass and silver furniture. The brass furniture comprises the buttcap, triggerguard, ramrod thimbles, fluted nosecap and sideplate. The barrel is attached by two silver barrel keys and there is silver inlay around the flared breechplug. The stock has moderate figure and the brass furniture is nicely engraved. The lock is flint and is engraved on the face "WOGDON & BARTON." Lock is finished in the white. The barrel is nicely browned with two gold bands inlaid at the breech and a silver front sight and notch style rear sight. Serial number 12 is inlaid in a gold oval just behind the rear sight. The barrel is part round part octagon and 8 1/4" in length. It is rifled and .50 caliber. A striped maple ramrod is housed in the thimbles beneath the barrel. The case is handmade of highly figured curly maple and is lined with green felt. Cased accessories include a loading rod, mainspring vise, Damascus patch knife made by Joe Keesler, a combination screwdriver/nipple pick, a pan brush, a carved priming horn, an oil bottle and a carved powder measure. All of the tools are handled with curly maple. Inside the lid is a printed label signed by Turner Edward Kirkland and denoting the serial number of this gun. The case has brass corners inlaid and a brass handle inlaid in the lid surrounding a silver medallion with a relief bust of Turner Kirkland present. Overall condition is unfired.
