Made in France but with no maker's name present. The barrel is 38 1/4" long and has a 16 gauge bore. The rear section of the barrel is octagonal with the transition to 16-sided and then to a turned ring and then to round. The barrel has excellent plain brown and gray contrasting twist pattern over the entire length with no pitting present except for some very minor roughness just around the touch hole area. The bore is excellent. The barrel has a small brass blade front sight located about 3" behind the muzzle. The lock mechanism is original flint, never having been converted to percussion. The plate is 4 7/8" long and has a flat face with a deep beveled edge. The steel pan is faceted with a bridle to the frizzen screw. Frizzen spring is attached with an internal screw. The surface of the lock is smooth and gray in color. Operation of the lock is excellent. The stock extends along the forend to where the rings are turned on the barrel. The stock appears to be made of walnut and is in fine condition with checkering on the straight grip wrist and on the forend. The stock surface is smooth with only some minor bruising present. Brass furniture comprises the buttplate, fancy triggerguard, ramrod thimble and sideplate. All brass furniture is finely engraved except for the ramrod entry thimble. In addition, high quality silver wire inlay is present around the buttplate, around the breechplug tang and on the forend around the ramrod entry thimble. The barrel is attached to the stock by two barrel keys which have silver escutcheons on the entry side with silver wire surrounding the other side. A sling swivel is attached to the stock on the forend with a large stud attachment point behind the triggerguard. A handmade woven American style sling is attached to the swivels. Light carving is present around the cheekpiece. Overall condition is fine plus.
