The lock is French styled. The plate is 6 3/8" long and is flat faced with beveled edge all the way around. It is slightly pointed at the tail and has no markings on the flat face. It has a faceted pan with a bridle to the frizzen spring screw. The hammer is flat faced with a double throat. The lockplate is brown with some minor roughness present but mostly smooth and has not been reconverted. The stock is made of American maple and extends to within about 3 ½" of the muzzle. It has some widely spaced curl present in the buttstock and along the forend. It has mostly a smooth somewhat shiny surface but with quite a few handling and wear marks. Light scratches are present to the surface and some irregular dents and bruises. The forend is cracked in a couple of places along the right side but without wood missing. There are slivers of wood missing on either side of the forend at the forward terminus. The nosecap has been replaced with a primitive style piece which fits the present configuration of the forend. The stock is mounted with brass furniture including the buttplate, triggerguard, ramrod thimbles and military style sideplate. The buttplate is similar to a Brown Bess while the triggerguard is a sporting style with an acorn finial. An oval brass plate has been inlaid in the bottom of the stock just ahead of the triggerguard. This might be some type of repair. The tapered round barrel is almost 44" long and is smooth and brown externally. No markings are present on the barrel although a couple of small turned rings are present at the breech. The bore is .80 caliber. A metal trumpet shaped ramrod is present beneath the barrel and appears to be original to the gun. Overall condition is good.
