AC0306 CONFEDERATE ARTILLERY LANYARD

These lanyards are based on research of original pieces and what has been requested (rather than the military specification of the time) of this manufacturer over the years. Many photos of battles in the field have been examined and you can see that the lanyards in use were shorter than the Quartermaster's requirements. These lanyards are just over 7 feet in length.

The confederate lanyard is made with a hardwood handle, normally cherry or oak. It features a hardened steel hook that has been treated with beeswax to prevent rust. The cord is 4mm hemp that has been treated with silicone and the eye splices have been treated with beeswax to prevent the strands from separating and coming loose. The Confederacy used hemp because there was no commercial fishery as there was in New England and they were unable to secure supplies of the cod line.
