Designed for shooting live pigeon as it does not have a ramrod beneath the barrel. Overall length is 49 ¼”. The barrel is 33 3/8” long and has a bore of 9 gauge. The barrel is tapered round but with forged, slightly concave top rib made integrally with the barrel. The barrel is mounted with a small bead front sight. The barrel is medium brownish gray in color with plain twist pattern evident over the entire length. The top flat of the barrel is stamped “J.E. EVANS PHILADa.” The bore is fair as there is considerable moderate pitting present. Also, there is a very small bulge around the barrel at the front of the forend. The barrel surface is smooth with no pitting externally. High quality engraving is present on the hook style patent breech. The same high quality scroll engraving is also present on the breechplug tang, hammer, lockplate, triggerguard and buttplate. The front action lockplate is light gray in color and smooth with no pitting. It is marked “J.E. EVANS PHILa.” Action works perfectly. The stock is made of highly figured walnut. It has a very smooth surface. It is nicely checkered on the straight grip wrist and on the forend. Stock is mounted with a smooth steel buttplate and triggerguard. Serial number 464 is engraved on the triggerguard tang. The front of the forend has an interesting fluted tip. The stock has been broken through the wrist and expertly repaired. A couple of covered pins are evident on each side of the wood and there are two extra wood screws in the triggerguard tang. Overall condition is very good.
