16 gauge side-by-side barrels are 35 3/8” long. They have nice plain Damascus twist pattern evident over the entire length. Most of the surfaces are smooth but with some pinpoint pitting on the rear portion. Breechplugs are inlaid with two gold bands with light engraving present. In addition, two oval brass inlays are present on the top of each breechplug. It is possible that these once held a gold touchmark but have been filled with brass since. Barrels are attached to the stock by a single barrel key which is surrounded by oval silver escutcheons. The breechplug tang is also nicely engraved with moderate wear to the engraving there. The right and left hand lockplates are 4 ¼” long with a flat face and beveled edge. Light engraving is present on the lockplates. Each lockplate has an oval indentation below the integral pans. The oval indentations are empty and most likely contained a gold maker’s mark. Faint color casehardening is present on each of the gooseneck hammers. Roller style frizzen springs are present with attachment by internal screws. Locks click up nicely. The frizzen on the left lock appears to be a replacement. The walnut stock is in fine condition showing light wear with light scratches. It is mounted with a steel shotgun style buttplate, large rounded triggerguard and an iron ramrod entry thimble. A small oval silver inlay is unengraved and located behind the breechplug tang. The wrist of the fairly well figured stock is checkered in the English style. Overall condition is very good.
