.31 caliber with five-shot cylinder and 5" octagonal barrel with no provision for loading lever. The barrel is well marked within brackets "ADDRESS SAMl COLT/N-YORK CITY." The barrel has traces of original blue finish in protected areas and edges and corners are fairly sharp. Serial number 3961 is very clearly stamped on the frame. It is also clearly stamped on the barrel and the backstrap but only the last digit is present on the triggerguard. No number is stamped on the barrel wedge although it does look old. The frame is dull gray in color. It has some blue tints which may be faded color casehardening. It is well marked in tiny letters "COLT'S PATENT" on the left side below the cylinder. Squareback triggerguard is present with minute traces of silver plating remaining. Slightly more plating remains on the brass backstrap. The cylinder with round cylinder stop notches has about 40% thin shiny fire blued present. No cylinder scene remains although the serial number is present on the cylinder. This number may be restamped. Action works fairly well. One piece grips are in very good condition showing moderate wear. They are smooth and fit well except for a tiny chip on the left side at the bottom. Overall condition is about very good.
