Rare caliber is .38 Colt. 5 ½” barrel with six-shot fluted cylinder. The barrel is perfectly marked in one linen with the Colt address. The left side of the barrel is stamped “38 COLT.” The barrel has about 70% shiny blue finish which is beginning to thin mostly on the left side. The ejector housing has a similar amount of blue finish. The original blade front sight has been slightly shortened. The frame is perfectly marked with two line patent dates on the left side below the cylinder. The rampant colt is stamped in a circle just behind the patent dates. The frame has about 20% dull color casehardening but is perfectly smooth with perfectly sharp edges and corners. The cylinder has about 80% of the blue finish remaining. Serial number is 319376, made in 1911. Action works perfectly. Good original blue finish remains on the hammer screw with only flashes remaining on the other two frame screws. The triggerguard has about 30% shiny blue finish with about 20% remaining on the backstrap. The gun is fitted with perfect one piece walnut grips which show no wear. Included with the gun is a factory letter indicating that the gun was shipped on October 4, 1911 to Phelps, Lewis & Bennett Company in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. The letter also states that the revolver was returned to the factory on May 24, 1912. It was subsequently shipped to Norvell Shapleigh Hardware Company in St. Louis, Missouri on June 6, 1912 and noted to have been fitted with wooden grips at this time. Overall condition is very fine.
