This pistol was made by Asa Waters using mostly 1836 flintlock pistol parts but was never made as a flintlock and therefore is not a conversion. Their exact place in history is not known. Overall length is 14 ½” with an 8 ½” tapered round barrel with a bore of .54 caliber. The barrel is dull gray in color with some very light pinpoint roughness present. Overall appearance is smooth. The barrel is mounted with a brass blade front sight with no markings on the barrel. Sighting groove is on top of the breechplug tang. A swivel ramrod is located beneath the barrel. The stock is mounted with steel furniture including the buttcap, triggerguard, barrel band and sideplate. These pieces are all smooth and brownish gray in color with no pitting. The lockplate is flat without a beveled edge. It is marked with an eagle head over “A.H.WATERS & Co/MILBURY, MASS.” Markings are sharp and legible. The coloration on the lockplate is also brownish gray as is the hammer. The walnut stock is made in the same configuration as the Model 1836 US flintlock pistol. The stock is in fine condition. Coloration is quite dark but the stock only shows light wear. Action works perfectly. Percussion nipple is attached to a cylindrical drum which is screwed into the right side of the barrel. Overall condition is very good.
