Converted from flintlock to percussion. This pistol has an historic association with inscription on the sideplate with supporting paperwork. Overall length of the pistol is 16”. The tapered round barrel is 10” long and has a bore of .54 caliber. The barrel is smooth and brownish gray outside with some very light roughness around the percussion drum. Barrel is excellently marked with proof marks at the breech. It is mounted with a brass blade front sight with a sighting groove present on the long breechplug tang. The lockplate is faintly marked “S NORTH/U.S./MIDLtn,CONN.” surrounding an American eagle. The of 1821 is stamped on the back of the lockplate behind the sliding safety. The lockplate is dark gray in color and the markings are fairly sharp. The pistol was converted to percussion using a drum and nipple inserted into the right side of the barrel and a sporting style hammer attached to the tumbler. The stock is made of walnut and is in very good condition. Faint cartouches are present on the left side and the stock is smooth and sound. There is a small sliver of wood missing on top of the lockplate. The stock is mounted with iron furniture including the buttcap, triggerguard, barrel band and sideplate. The original swivel ramrod is located beneath the barrel but the head is missing from the rod and the attachment screw is a replacement. The sideplate is stamped “PVT. J.M. ADAMS/CO.K ALABAMA/VOL.C.S.A.” This stamping appears to be quite old. Included with the gun are various supporting papers relating to Joseph M. Adams of Company K 34th Alabama Infantry Volunteers. Photo copies of muster rolls and pay sheets are present with the pistol. Overall condition of the pistol is about very good.
