This is a well made Jaeger rifle by Robert Penix of Freemont, In. It begins with a Colerain 31 inch swamped barrel in 62 caliber featuring a 1 in 66 twist. A flowertail front sight and open style Jaeger rear sight, both in steel, are dovetailed into the top flat of the barrel. The rifle has a good quality flintlock by an unknown maker but it throws good sparks and features a border along the edges of the plate and engraving on the frizzen. The furniture is all steel and includes 2 upper thimbles, a lower thimble with entry tang, engraved triggerguard, engraved sideplate, buttplate which is engraved on the top tang, toeplate, a decorative sling button and a sling swivel in the forarm. All of the steel on the rifle has a grey patina color. The stock is walnut and has a sliding wood patchbox lid with an ivory half moon inlay in it and a poured pewter nosecap. The rifle has a single trigger with a length of pull 14inches. Weight is 8 lbs. Overall condition is very good.
